Sadly, the old saying “While the cat’s away the mouse will play” rings true these days, even with military wives. I know because my wife cheated on me a lot while I was away. Just to set the record straight, not all military wives cheat. In fact, many are faithful loving wives who would never cheat on their husbands. But the odds are greater for military wives to cheat than civilians because the husband is away a lot more.

When left alone for a long period of time, young women could be more tempted to cheat. Younger women may feel insecure and crave the companionship of a man. They may feel like they are missing out on love which could give them a low self-esteem. Some women didn’t get love and affection from their families when growing up, so they are craving it now. It’s almost in their jeans. And while you are away she’s feeling very vulnerable and lonely. It’s no excuse, but it happens.

Sometimes your military wife will cheat on you because she’s angry that her friends are still having fun and she is not. She may feel angry that you were taken away from her and she wants to vent. She’ll cheat on you just to feel the feelings there are missing out on while you are away. It sounds crazy but please remember, women think a lot differently than we do. They tend to be more emotional. Men cheat because of physical attraction. Many times women cheat for emotional reasons.

Peer pressure and poor influences will also cause your wife to cheat. This is what happened to me. Your military wife may meet a woman who’s unfaithful in her marriage and she’ll tell your wife stories of her infidelities. Before long your wife is going to parties with this new friend and one thing leads to another and, well you get the point.

I found out my wife was cheating from some of my friends on the ship. As it turns out, she was sleeping with many of my friends I used to drink beer with at ports and socialize with. It was a terrible way to find out, but the truth was better than fiction.
