Sex Girls | Pink Or Blue? – Guessing Your Baby\’s Sex

March 11, 2010 – 12:52 am

Nowadays, modern technology has made it possible to determine the sex of your baby at about 20 weeks. But if you can’t wait for your ultrasound or just want to try your hand at a few old wives’ tales, there are several fun ways to predict your baby’s sex.

One popular myth is that carrying your baby high means that you’re having a girl, while carrying your baby low means that you’re having a boy. The baby’s heartbeat can also coincide with the sex: girls are more likely to have faster heartbeats, while boys are more likely to have slower heartbeats. Others believe that a mother’s cravings tell the story (salty treats might indicate the need for baby boy blue, whereas sweet treats like chocolate could signal baby girl pink). Frequent skin breakouts and morning sickness can also be signs of a girl.

Some use ancient techniques to determine the gender. For instance, the Chinese use a special method based on the mother’s age and month of conception to predict the sex of the baby. The Mayans based their baby predictions on the mother’s age of conception compared to the baby’s year of birth-that is, if both numbers are even or odd, then it’s a girl; if one is even and another is odd, then it’s a boy.

All of these guessing games are meant for fun, not for accuracy. If you really want to know your baby’s sex, then you’ll have to wait until the second trimester when you can get an ultrasound.
