Having worked as an agony aunt for many years I know how hard it is to find a goodone. My business used to be called ask agony aunt and I often had to advertise for staff to work with me for and always had problems getting people who were suitable to hire to work with me.There were always lots of people applying, usually women, saying they wanted todo this work but very few if any were any good. Many of them were deluded others were fakes. It is a scary thought that you would want to and find that the person you ask is the wrong person.
My businessshut down when I retired years ago.It waswas very popular for a long time.It was set up by me and run by me, when it became popular it was me and many staff working under me. I employed dozens of different agony aunts over the years.People knew that the agony aunt was good,because I was very fussy. Thirty years ago if someone decided to ask agony aunt it was often me they turned to.
Since retiring from itI have no dealings with such work. But I like to look online to see if there are any agony aunts worth consulting if you have a problem. Just because Iclosed does not mean that people do not have problems. I get emails every day from people who want to askagony aunt and are upset that it has closed down. They ask me if we can open askagonyaunt again or if I can suggest somewhere safe to go to with their problems. As askagonyaunt will not be opening again – ever – I looked online to find a site I can really recommend. Something that gives them all thatmy business of years agoused to. Someone who is good at what they do, sincere, fair, available.

There are a lot of sites that set themselves up yet they cannot deliver the goods. Many of them are fakes other are bored housewives who are out of their depth! It is not that simple to set up an ask agony aunt business, it is a lot more than just speaking or putting down words.

I do not know how many agony aunts work forthis sitebut I do know that you can consult Charlotte Craig herself. This is quite something as most big agony aunts are out of reach of people and pass on all of their work to staff. She is affordable too.

Whenever you have a question or problem you can be looking for support, information or advice, whichever combination of these you want you can go to Charlotte’s site and ask agony aunt . I never ask for advice, I do not need to, before I retired people paid me for my advice, but I do understand what it is like to be worried or sad and feeling that talking to someone will help. And I can see that if you are very worried and you cannot share that burden with someone it eats away at you and stops your life until things are sorted properly.
Most people get upset about relationship things more than anything else. Marriage, divorce, a ruined romance, unrequited love, dating, sex etc. It is very rare that a client consults you for anything else other than these subjects. Maybe this is because they get emotional about them and are able to think more rationally about the other things in their life?
When you ask agony aunt it is up to you what it is about. The agony aunt will gladly listen to and advise on anything and everything. I used to find that if people thought more logically about affairs of the heart, just as they do about money and work, they would have less problems, sadness and worry.
Of course, we all have different personalities and lifestyles so things that worry one person would not worry another. A good agony aunt has to be versatile and advise on anything and everything. Even if the agony aunt has never had children they need a basic knowledge about such things.

I have been on the askagonyaunt website for three weeks after applying for a job as an agony aunt with them. When I first read the information on the site I was rather skeptical particularly as they asked for no age restrictions, qualifications or experience but offered training at cost. The training does not have a time period but ends when Ms Craig believes that you are ready.
For those who did not wish or could not afford training the other option was to prove that you were had time available, could write well i.e. no spelling mistakes good grammar and can offer appropriate advise without rambling. Interestingly despite the insistence that spelling and so on is of great importance I noted spelling errors on the website. After three weeks a decision would be made as to whether you were accepted for the post but you would not be notified if you were not successful. .In respect to this option there is no means of direct contact with future employer or any indication of future terms and conditions.
For those who are successful through training they have to undertake 5 years of work otherwise suffer financial penalties if they paid for the reduced training package.
A new feature on the website is where a newspaper or magazine advertises for agony aunts but requirements seem to be that you are trained or work for askagonyaunt and or are a member of the Agony Aunt Association which from my research is only achieved by training with Ms Craig. I found no other official recognition of this association.
During the three weeks on the website I contacted a well know agony aunt who currently works for UK national newspaper and she in no uncertain terms warned me against paying this website any money for training and not to go down the route to become an agony aunt as offered by this website. She said that most agony aunts are journalists and she offered advice re becoming an agony aunt.
I have put a number of questions to Ms Craig and her associates but few have been answered. Unsurprisingly I was not offered a job!
