Across Europe towns and cities are getting ready for Christmas. Lights and decorations are all going up, if they are not up already and shops are preparing for the seasonal rush with there own festive cheer. Town and city centres from the biggest city’s to the smallest towns are also preparing for the special festive tradition of Christmas markets. Each year town squares and streets are transformed to winter wonderlands with lights, decorations, food, drink, entertainment, music and stall upon stall selling all sorts of goods.
One country that always springs to mind when thinking about Christmas markets is France. They have become synonymous with this festive tradition across the world with many of the best markets taking place in towns and city’s across the country. Traditionally the largest markets are held in Northern France but there are markets to delight in any region you wish to visit. Christmas markets in France originally started out as a way for rural housewives to come to market and obtain all the ingredients they will need for food over the festive period. But over the centuries they started attracting more than just rural housewives and have become popular with shoppers and tourists alike.
